After a motivating team performance against Celtic Dragons last week, it was time to refocus after our solid win and concentrate on our next game down in Surrey. Going in to this match we knew that Storm were going to be a challenging team, not only as they have put out some good performances, but also as we knew they’d be out to prove themselves after their loss against Jets the previous week.
To start off our first session we had an important person returning from injury that needed some help from the team to push on her fitness, which only meant one thing, the joys of one of Tracey’s conditioning sessions... Thanks Kez!! We all hope to have her back on court very soon! Once that was out the way we had to get our heads down and focus on Surrey.
Throughout training we worked on implementing a few tactics relevant to the video analysis done on Surrey. We also had to focus on one of our weaknesses we identified from the Dragons game; this involved determining some set plays in order to get the whole team on board with what we were trying to achieve.
After our week of training the time had come for us to travel to Surrey to play arguably our most difficult game yet. The coach journey began as usual, Bayman claiming the back seat for a sleep and the big decision of which DVD to watch. Much to everyone’s excitement this week Ellie bought along the final Twilight with her, a great choice after watching the other four in Glasgow earlier this year!
We arrived in Surrey at about 6pm and prepared for the game. We started well, taking an early lead with some great through court plays, however, this lead gradually slipped and we went into the second quarter with a two goal lead. We continued the second quarter with some good play, however this was inconsistent and Surrey went ahead at the end of the first half. After this point our performance as a team dropped, there was a flat atmosphere on court and we allowed Surrey to take it away from us, the final score being 62-44 to Surrey.
It was a disappointing game felt massively by everyone, however, we are not a team to dwell so it is onwards and upwards from here, we have a lot to work on and will go back in to training this week with a positive attitude ready to take on Mavericks next Monday.
