Janelle's Blog - Busy Busy
Week three at Manchester Thunder was a busy one. Half term was a great opportunity for us to run multiple camps at both Darwen Aldridge Academy and Wright Robinson for our young up and coming talent. It was great to see such a good bunch of enthusiastic netballers wanting to show off their netballing prowess. A special congratulation to our campers of the day and shooting competition winners who were presented with a prize at our game on Saturday, lots of mini big timers in the making I say!
Unfortunately week three also saw our captain side-lined with a bit of a dodgy knee. However, everyone should be happy to know that Sara has been in for a minor operation and is well on the road to recovery. Unfortunately for us it means she is momentarily allowed to be bossier and grumpier than ever, making us even more excited for her return to the netball court in the coming weeks.
Game day against Loughborough Lightning gave Emma Dovey the opportunity to step up as captain, leading the way on court being a solid workhorse in the defensive end as always. Krista Enziano proved to be unstoppable under the post in the first quarter, finding space and confidently slotting goals from almost anywhere. Laura Malcolm seemed to enjoy the run around in her newly claimed Centre position and walked away with a well-deserved player of the match.
The game was a fantastic team effort with 11 players hitting the court, unfortunately for clumsy me I literally hit the court a few a times and have the bruises to prove it… however with a final score of 72- 40 there are a lot of positives we will take into our next game. Congratulations to Georgie Webster and Gabby Marshall who made their Netball Superleague debuts, also a big thanks to them both for dropping our average age on court to around 12 in that final quarter ;)
To wrap things up, our England big timers have been at it again. Congratulations to Emma Dovey and Laura Malcolm for being named in the squad to face Jamaica in a test series at Easter. And to our U21 England big timers who have been named to tour Australia at Easter, Eleanor Cardwell, Beth Cobden, Georgie Webster and Alice Travis, well done kids. I’m already concerned that all of you will come back with better tans than me.
