Manchester Thunder 65 Team Northumbria 35
Following five straight wins coming into tonight’s game against Team Northumbria, Manchester Thunder, in their hot pink dresses, were set to make it six in front of a capacity crowd. From the first whistle Thunder fought extremely well and hard, and took a very early lead. Great shooting from Krista Enziano and Helen Housby and plenty of interceptions from Emma Dovey and Kerry Almond saw Thunder leading 21-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Northumbria came back fighting in the second quarter, but with more interceptions from Dovey and Malcolm, Thunder stormed ahead and great work and pace from all the team saw Thunder lead by 20 goals at half time, with the score at 34-14.
With Thunder so far ahead going into the final quarter, Northumbria did not give up, making the atmosphere in the Thunderdome even more intense as both teams continued to fight during the final 15 minutes. The tension only increased when a collision between Hale and Gibson resulted in play being stopped for several minutes with only five minutes left on the clock. Thankfully both girls stood up to a great applause, and Thunder’s winning form continued with Dovey back at goal defence and Almond at goal keeper.
With great movement down the court from Henry and Malcolm, the shots from Housby and the newly introduced Alice Travis at goal shooter continued to go in. Thunder ended the game with a spectacular win against Team Northumbria, with the final score of 65-35.
